Thinking Of Having A Stall

General Notes for Stall Holders

Tea and Coffee is free to exhibitors before 2.00pm.

Lighting in some parts of the venue is subdued. If you need bright lights, you may need to provide your own. We advise that you also bring a long extension lead for access to power points. For health and safety reasons, uncovered power leads cannot trail across walkways or fire exits. Strip adapters cannot be linked together.

Public Liability Insurance is required of all exhibitors using their own display stands, rails etc., either free standing or on a table. Exhibitors using only the table provided, do not need separate insurance. Insurance is also required if you intend to be demonstrating goods that could cause injury if there's a mishap, for example floggers and whips.

Setting up is from 12 midday to be ready for opening by 2pm.

Get the Most from Your Day

Publicity

Before the Day
Let your customers know that you'll be trading at S.W.A.M.P - point out the benefits of seeing the goods before they buy. Put our link on your website, and maybe put a flier in with deliveries, or a tag line on your delivery notes.

Get your display right by trying it out beforehand, so you know that you have enough hangers, hooks, signs etc; and so that you're not still juggling with your display when customers start coming in.

Make a list of everything you need to bring with you!

On the Day

Give clear, concise information. Either price everything up, or have a price list available. Customers don't like to feel that you are deciding the price there and then!

Maximise your sales by offering to take orders. Having a proper order form available, and being able to provide a receipt for the order, increases customer confidence.

Put business cards or fliers on your stand, to increase the number of after-market sales you get. There's also a table near the entrance where you can put your fliers.

Be willing to refer customers to another trader if you can't provide what they want. It's good for your reputation amongst customers, goodwill between traders, and means you'll get sales in the future when traders return the favour!

Do Not criticise competitors' products or practices to your customers. In the long run, it only damages your own reputation.

After the Market

Follow up on enquiries and orders.

Get involved in discussion in the Yahoo group - it will help to get you known and trusted, and a vibrant group will increase the number of people visiting the market.
